Travellers to India are advised not to carry satellite phones with them, whether as cabin or checked baggage.

Under Section 6 of the Indian Wireless Act and Section 20 of the Indian Telegraph Act, it is illegal to carry satellite phones from Thuraya and Iridium in India, unless permission from the relevant Indian authorities has been obtained.
